Kids and teens need nutritious food to grow, be healthy, and to effectively learn at school. Yet too many Richmond students go to school hungry.
In partnership with the Richmond School District, we’re helping to address this need by supporting food and meal programs in Richmond schools. Please contact keith@rfbs.org for more information.
If you are interested in supporting our cause, consider donating to or volunteering with our school programs.
Please contact us if you are a teacher or an administrator who knows of a school that could use a meal or food program, or already has a program that could benefit from food resources.
We proudly supported 11 school food programs in 2020. Many of these programs had to be adapted due to the pandemic, switching from an in-school meal format to a take-away or delivery hampers.
In the 2015-2016 school year, we ran three pilot meal program projects. In 2016-2017, we expanded to nine programs in seven Richmond schools:
Breakfast programs in four elementary schools
Lunch programs in two high schools
Snack programs in three schools
In total, we serve meals to more than 400 children each week while school is in session and when meal programs are running.
In 2024, we partnered with the Richmond Firefighters to deliver snacks to schools in Richmond.
