IKEA Richmond has been part of the Richmond community for nearly five decades, first welcoming customers to its No. 3 Road location in 1976 as IKEA’s first Canadian store.

For more than seven years, IKEA Richmond has proudly supported the Richmond Food Bank and its mission to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. Access to nutritious food is an essential part of a healthy, sustainable life, making food security a natural fit with IKEA’s vision of creating a better everyday life for the many.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this partnership has been the opportunity for IKEA coworkers to get involved hands-on. Throughout the years, teams have volunteered at the Food Bank preparing and distributing food during distribution days, gaining a firsthand understanding of the growing need in our community.

“Volunteering at RFBS was an inspiring experience. I enjoyed seeing RFBS demonstrating the value of togetherness by organizing food donations while creating a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. This experience made me more appreciative of teamwork and giving back to the community.”

Over the summer, IKEA Richmond and the IKEA Vancouver Customer Distribution Centre supported 200 local families through the Brighter Days, Fuller Plates campaign, providing meal kits with IKEA meatballs or plant balls, gravy, and lingonberry jam, along with $3,000 in financial support. The partnership continued through IKEA’s Back to School program, with IKEA matching donations of lunch bags, reusable containers, water bottles, and other essentials, helping provide supplies to 200 families in August.

For IKEA, supporting food security is about more than providing food. It’s about building a stronger, more connected community. As the need continues to grow, IKEA looks forward to strengthening their collaboration with RFBS and finding new ways to create meaningful social impact. To other local businesses and organizations, IKEA’s message is simple: “Do something. Change everything.” Together, planet-sized problems can be tackled through people-sized solutions.

Thank you, IKEA Richmond, for the many years of partnership, generosity, and community spirit!
