We are proud to share the impact of your generosity and dedication over the past year. Thanks to the continued support of our community, the Richmond Food Bank Society was able to help thousands of neighbours access food in 2025. You can explore highlights from the year in our 2025 infographic.
As food prices continued to rise and more households sought assistance, 2025 was another year of growth and adaptation for our organization. With the support of donors, volunteers, and community partners, we remained committed to ensuring that individuals and families in Richmond had access to essential groceries.
Meeting the Growing Need
In 2025, the food bank recorded 64,533 visits, a 3% increase compared to 2024. Throughout the year, we supported 5,134 unique households and registered 1,074 new households seeking assistance for the first time.
To better meet the diverse needs of our community, we offered culturally appropriate items during grocery pickups, and continued offering multiple food distribution locations along with home delivery services. These programs help ensure access for seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, and families with young children.
We also strengthened partnerships across the community by distributing 87,146 kilograms of surplus food to local nonprofit organizations, helping expand food security efforts throughout Richmond.
Food Recovery
Food recovery continues to play a vital role in our work. In 2025, we recovered and distributed 842,655 kilograms of food, a 29% increase compared to 2024.
By redirecting surplus food that might otherwise go to waste, we are able to provide nutritious groceries to more households while reducing food waste. We are grateful to the retailers, wholesalers, and farms whose ongoing support makes this work possible.
Supporting School-Aged Children
Through our Brighter Days, Fuller Plates campaign, we distributed 1,070 meal kits during the summer months, helping school-aged children stay nourished when school meal programs were unavailable.
During the school year, we also provided 1,849 snack packs to students to support their learning and wellbeing.
In partnership with the Richmond School District, we continued supporting 51 schools across Richmond through breakfast programs, lunch programs, and school fridge initiatives.
