The Richmond Food Bank is proud to launch a new Youth Volunteering Accreditation for the 2025-26 school year. The accreditation will enable 6 school students aged 15-18 who are based in Richmond to complete their mandatory 30 hours of work experience for High School Graduation, whilst also gaining valuable work experience and picking up important transferrable skills for any future career path.

The accreditation will allow all 30 volunteering hours to be completed outside of school time, using Pro-D days, weekend and evening shifts. Participants will be able to try out all aspects of volunteering at the Richmond Food Bank, giving them a full understanding of how the organization operates. Tasks that will be undertaken as part of the accreditation include:

  • Registering new clients.
  • Client intake.
  • Sorting perishable and non-perishable donations.
  • Front of house.
  • Repacking donated items.
  • Making hampers.

Training will be provided before undertaking all roles, and participants will shadow experienced volunteers to help them gain the core competencies required to successfully complete all tasks.

Students who complete the accreditation, which also includes a diary and an evaluation to help participants reflect on any skills gained and potential for future development, will receive a certificate and a letter of recommendation for future study or employment. Any interested students should submit an online application form by Tuesday September 30th.

Applications for the 2025/2026 school year are now closed. Check back in late summer 2026 for the next round of applications.
